As the name suggests, a driving license allows you to drive a vehicle. This document is also an important proof of identity. Nowadays, a driving license is issued in the form of a smart card that contains the holder’s personal information like a printed photograph, name, current residential address, etc. It also contains the holder’s biometric information like fingerprints. This detail is stored in a chip embedded on the smart card. It is illegal to drive without a valid driving license and one can face severe consequences like heavy fine or even imprisonment.

International Driving License in Hyderabad, Telangana

This is required as the normal driving license of Hyderabad would not be valid outside India. It is valid for one year. The validity period is short as you are required to get accustomed to drive in changed scenario like left hand drive in most of the countries unlike in our country. The amount of the fee for the International Driving License is Rs. 1000/-


  • Application Form for International Driving Permit or IDP
  • A valid proof of being an  Indian National and an attested copy of the proof.
  • A valid permanent driver’s license. The validity period of the license should be more than a year from the date of the application. If the validity is lower than a year, then the candidate has to take a fresh driving license.
  • Valid address proof with one attested copy of the same
  • Valid  Passport which expires beyond a year from the date of application and an attested copy of the same
  • Valid Visa where the period remaining is more than one year and the attested copy of it.   
  • Five copies of your recent passport size photograph
  • The medical certificate as prescribed in Form No.1-A
  • The proof of payment of the fees of Rs. 1,000/-
  • An air ticket might be required on certain occasions
  • You can expect to get delivery of the International Driving license on the next day. However,  sometimes it takes maximum of 3 days for the processing.

Eligibility criteria for driving License


The Driving License applicant must be well versed with traffic rules & regulations. The applicant must have valid address proof and age proof documents.

Motorcycles without gear with up to 50cc capacity

The candidate must be at-least 16 years old. Consent from guardian or parent must be obtained.

Motorcycles with gear

The candidate must be aged at least 18 years.

Commercial Heavy Vehicles and Transport Vehicles

The candidates must have finished at-least 8th standard of schooling and must be at least 18 years old. In some states, the minimum age requirement is 20 years.

Application Process


Visit the nearest RTO and keep passport photographs handy. Any required forms can be downloaded online or can be directly taken from the RTO office.

Fill the application form completely and attach the photograph wherever applicable. Attach address proof and age proof documents along with it. Also, schedule a test by choosing a slot for Driving License.

Be there at the given time and date for Driving License test. Once you pass the test, the Driving License will be sent to your permanent address.

If you are driving under the guidance of a driving school, they should assist you.


Visit the Parivahan website and select your state. Check if your state has the online Driving License application facility.

You will be asked to fill up personal information. Also, you will be required to upload documents like age proof and address proof before you submit the form.

For Driving License applications, some state RTOs offer the feature where you can select the time slot for Driving License test. You will also be able to make a payment towards the Learner’s License application & test online.

Be present at the Driving License test facility to take the Driving License test as per the slot that you have selected.

After submitting the documents, you will be allotted a preliminary test slot, this it to check how familiar you are with operating the vehicle. Once you pass the test, a permanent driving license will be provided to you.

To apply for driving License in India, the following documents will be required:

  • Address proof (any one document from the list given below)

    ○      If you are resident of some other city, then you can submit the House Rent Agreement with a copy of a recent utility bill, like electricity bill or gas bill as current address proof.

    ○      Transfer certificate from school with date of birth . mentioned on it
    ○      10th standard mark sheet

  • Application Fees for driving License
  • Passport-size photographs: at least 3 photographs
  • Medical Certificate: To be signed by a certified Government doctor (if applicable)

Application Process to Renew Your License in Hyderabad, Telangana

For renewal of a driving license Hyderabad, Telangana for a commercial, passenger or goods vehicle has to be done after every 3 years. The forms/ papers/ certificates to be deposited for the renewal of the license in this case are:

  • Application in Form No.9 properly filled up
  • 2 copies of the applicant’s recent passport size photograph
  • Medical Certificate in Form No.1
  • The current Driving license held by the applicant
  • Documents to prove age and the place of residence
  • All photo copies are to be self attested
  • For renewal of heavy motor vehicle, the driver has to submit a certificate of refresher training

For renewal of these licenses, the particulars are verified from the issuing authority as a precaution.

Applying for a Duplicate Driving License at the RTO

If you need to apply for a duplicate license, you can do so at the RTO. The following documents are required to obtain a duplicate driving license in Hyderabad, Telangana:

  • An application in Form LLD
  • If it had been lost or stolen, then the FIR/NCR of the lost license
  • Self declaration of you fitness in Form No. 1
  • 200/- fee
  • Copy of address proof, self attested together with the original.

Once the records have been verified, you will be given a duplicate license.However, in case of loss of driving license for more than 6 months from the date of loss, you will need special permission from the Headquarter of theTransport Department. After the submission of the application, you will get the duplicate license once all the particular shave been verified from their existing records.

Tips to Clear Driving Test

  • Do not turn off your bike/ car until it stops completely
  • Shift the gears smoothly and slowly from one level to the other.
  • Use the side and rear mirror while driving.
  • For taking a left or right turn, you should use the indicator as well as show a hand signal
