At this stage, your preschooler may have a habit of biting especially when he is frustrated, afraid, or upset. He uses this as a coping mechanism. Do not lose your temper if your toddler bites you. This would only elevate his emotions.
Instead, talk to him in a calm voice. Explain to him that it hurts when he bites. Make him understand slowly that it is not an acceptable behavior. Tell him that he can share his feelings with you. Your empathy would work wonders here. If your toddler bites when he is angry or afraid, try to correct this issue at the quickest. Most parents respond angrily when their kid performs such a bad behavior.
However, this is not the right way to address this matter. Sit with your little one and try to understand his emotions. As parents, you are the only point of contact with whom he can share his issues. Be verbal and understand your kid’s reason for biting. Try to spend more time with your toddler to keep him distracted from bad thoughts. Encourage other members of the family to come and play with your child. Socializing does work to improve the behavior of growing toddlers.
