Being Proactive:

In the recent past, various taxpayers have complained to the income tax department about digital fraud attempts being made on them. Such digital fraud attempts are commonly known as phishing. These attempts are made via SMS and email and are directed towards extracting personal information from the common public. Such messages are sent from sources that pose as income tax officials.

They have also installed a pop-up on their website which informs the public about the income tax department’s toll-free and contact numbers, and email IDs. These precautionary notifications speak about a common message which is about not trusting anonymous sources and not clicking on any unknown links.

If you come across any phishing activities, you should report them immediately. For example, in case you are at the receiving end of an email or an SMS in which the sender is posing as an income tax official, you should communicate the same to the income tax department. To do that, you can send the email to [email protected] or [email protected].
