You need to appear before the respective RTO along with the application form, pay the required fees, submit the required documents for a DL, pass the DL test and get the DL. However, you need to have a valid Learner’s Licence (LL) before you can apply for the permanent driving licence.
A driving licence for a private vehicle is 20 years from the date of issue, while for transport or commercial vehicles is 3 years. The licence to drive a non-transport vehicle or private vehicle should be renewed every 5 years while the driving licence for commercial vehicles should be renewed every year.
The applicant should book a slot and pay the fee online. Submit Form 1 and Form 1A along with the original driving licence and two passport size photographs. Once this process is completed, the competent Licensing Authority will renew the DL.

Telangana RTA Introduces New Online Services
– September 21, 2020
The COVID-19 pandemic has changed the way we live, and social distancing is the mantra to avoid getting infected. Now, for the safety of citizens and to avoid the rush at the offices, Telangana Transport Authority (RTA) has introduced six more online services. The newly introduced online services are the issuance of Learner’s Licence (LL) for expired Driving Licence (DL), renewal of LL, issuance of LL for the addition of new vehicle class, hazardous licence endorsement and change of address in DL. Officials state that maintaining social distancing is vital at offices of RTA as there will be a huge rush to avail the services. The offline process was cumbersome, and it used to take a lot of time. But now the majority of the services are available online, and it’s a huge relief for the vehicle owners and drivers. Previously, RTA had introduced 17 online services on a trial basis, and the response was good. Now six more services are added to the list, which is a good move considering the safety of the citizens.
Telangana Government Offers Incentives for Electric Vehicles
– August 10, 2020
The new policy concerning Electric Vehicles is approved by Telangana State Government’s Cabinet. This policy is aimed at encouraging the use of Electric Vehicles. It also aims to invite investors, such as manufacturers, associated with the Electric Vehicle industry. The policy offers incentives to customers as well as manufacturers. As per Telangana’s Electric Vehicle and Energy Storage Solution Policy, Electric Vehicle companies and first few customers shall receive certain benefits. A fixed number of first purchases for electric two-wheelers, three-wheelers, private cars, commercial vehicles, light goods carrying vehicles and busses, shall receive 100% exemption related to road tax and registration. The initiative aspires to make Telangana a preferred destination for Electric Vehicle manufacturing. Electric Vehicle companies shall receive better market access to build manufacturing units in the state. Such a move is expected to bring in investments and lead to an increase in direct and indirect employment opportunities.

Vehicle users have received a respite amid the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. They no longer need to rush to renew the validity of transport-related documents to government and other offices during such challenging times. The validity of documents like the Driving License, Fitness Certificate, Permits, etc. that have expired after 1 February 2020 has been extended till 30 September 2020. Such an extension was issued by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.Road Transport Authority’s (RTA) Joint Commissioner (IT & Vigilance), C. Ramesh mentioned that people who drive vehicles do not need to rush to concerned government and other offices for renewal as the validity of transport-related documents has been extended. Previously, the validity of applicable documents was extended till 30 June 2020, which has now been extended till 30 September 2020. Meanwhile, Thermal Screening has been initiated at all RTA offices in Hyderabad as a precautionary measure during the COVID-19 pandemic.
