No More RTO Checkposts in Gujarat

The state government of Gujarat today announced that it will remove all RTO check posts in the state effective from 20 November 2019. Learner’s Driving License will be issued from now on at polytechnic colleges and Industrial Training Institutes (ITI) beginning from 15 November 2019. Gujarat Chief Minister said the move was to reduce traffic congestion, ease of doing business as well as to curb corruption. Also, the tax and exemption fees collection by transporters has been replaced by an online system. The state has 16 check posts at its borders with Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra, which were earning around Rs.300 crore annually. The option of paying fess and any exemption can be done offline as well. If found violations during checking, the owner will be fined double the amount of actual cost of tax or fees that are required will entering Gujarat.
