FASTags have been made mandatory by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways for all vehicles across the country. This was implemented especially to reduce traffic at toll plazas across the country and move to a cashless toll payment system. FASTag enable commuters to pay the toll fee without having to stop and pay by cash.

To make it easier for the common man to apply for a FASTag, the government of India has certified 22 banks to provide FASTags across the country. One among them is the State Bank of India (SBI) which has been entrusted to sell and manage the FASTag account of customers. Read ahead to find out about the SBI Bank FASTag and its features.

SBI FASTag Online Application Process:

Bank-specific FASTags are available at the respective bank’s selected branches, toll plazas and at several service centres. You can also get FASTags online. To get the SBI FASTag online, one needs to open a FASTag account with the bank. Read ahead to know the SBI FASTag online application process:

Steps to Apply FASTag Through SBI Bank:

As per the official SBI FASTag website for FASTags, you can visit any of the SBI’s Point Of Sale (POS) counters set up by the bank at toll plazas to open your SBI FASTag account. Here are the steps:

  • Step 1: Visit any of the POS locations with your KYC and vehicle documents along with the original documents. You are required to take your vehicle while getting the FASTag. Here is the list of POS/Agent Locations of the SBI from where you can apply for a FASTag. Alternatively, you can call their customer care number 1800 11 0018, and they would be able to direct you to the nearest POS location.

  • Step 2: Fill the application to create your SBI FASTag account and submit it along with the supporting documents. The representative at the POS location will affix the FASTag on your vehicle’s windscreen.

  • Step 3: You would receive an SMS with details of your SBI FASTag username and password. Log in with these details at official SBI FASTag website to manage your account.

Get FASTag from SBI Bank via POS or Offline:

You can get an SBI FASTag through the Point of Sale (POS) counters at designated toll plazas or nearby areas. You can also walk into any of SBI’s branches to get the FASTag. You need to carry supporting documents which includes your KYC documents as well as your vehicle documents. Also, you need to take your vehicle to the POS to get the FASTag. A representative will help affix the SBI FASTag on your car. To recharge the FASTag account, you can visit the POS and pay by cash to reload the account.

SBI FASTag Fees and Charges:

Below are the details of the fees and charges associated with the SBI FASTags:

  • Issuance Fees of the FASTag: SBI charges Rs.100 as issuance charge for all categories of vehicles. This includes all applicable taxes.

  • Other Charges: When you apply for an SBI FASTag, a minimum-security amount is charged by the bank which differs for various types of vehicles. This is refundable when closing the SBI FASTag account. Also, you need to maintain a minimum balance as per the table below:

Documents Required for SBI FASTags:

The SBI FASTag is linked to a prepaid or a savings account, hence, Know Your Customer (KYC) documents are required while applying for the FASTag through the bank. Along with the KYC documents, you are required to submit your vehicle Registration Certificate (RC) and the application form. You can open the SBI FASTag account through the following two categories:

Limited KYC FASTag Account Holder Full KYC FASTag Account Holder
Prepaid Account Balance: Maximum Rs.20,000. Reload is limited to a maximum of Rs.20,000. Prepaid Account Balance: Maximum Rs.1 lakh. No limit to reload.
Documents Required: Minimum KYC information (ID and Address Proof, RC copy and your photograph.) Documents Required: Full KYC information (ID and Address Proof, RC copy and your photograph.

SBI FASTag Online Recharge:

To recharge your SBI FASTag prepaid account, follow the steps below:

  • Step 1: Visit the official SBI FASTag website.

  • Step 2: Log in with your username and password to access your account.

  • Step 3: On the new page, select the ‘Tag Recharge’ option at the top of the page.

  • Step 4: On the redirected page, enter the amount for recharge and click on ‘Pay Now’.

  • Step 5: Choose the payment method and a pop-up window will appear with the breakup of the charges, click on ‘Pay Now’ after checking all the details.

  • Step 6: Once the recharge is completed, an SMS notification will be sent to your registered mobile number with the details of the recharge.

Methods to Recharge Your SBI FASTag Online:

Below are the different ways you can recharge the SBI FASTag prepaid account:

  • Netbanking: You can log in to the SBI’s FASTag portal and use the net banking facility to recharge the account.

  • Debit/Credit Card: You can also use your debit or credit card to recharge the SBI FASTag account.

  • UPI Apps Like Bhim, Paytm, Google Pay: With more banks offering a digital mode of payments, you can recharge the FASTag account through several UPI apps.

What is SBI FASTag?

The SBI FASTag is an electronic device that uses Radio-Frequency ID (RFID) technology to process cashless toll payments from the FASTag prepaid account. The tag is affixed on the top middle of your car’s windshield and it contains a chip and an antenna inside. Through the RFID technology, the tag lets scanners at the toll plazas to read your FASTag account and debit the toll fee accordingly.

Is there a validity period for the SBI FASTag?

What happens if the toll fee is deducted twice at a toll plaza?

Contact the SBI FASTag customer care toll-free number 1800 11 0018, and they will raise the issue with the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and resolve the issue.

What if my SBI FASTag is not read at the toll plaza?

There could be two scenarios. One, the scanner or the FASTag reader at the toll plaza is not working, so, pay by cash and pass through the toll plaza. Second, if your tag is not readable, but other vehicle’s FASTags are readable. In this case, inform the toll operator to use the handheld device to read the tag, or you can just pay the cash and pass through the toll plaza. However, ensure you inform SBI about the issue and the bank will raise the issue with the SBI’s POS holder to resolve the issue.

Can SBI FASTags be used outside India?

No. You can use it only in India.

In case of a dispute at the toll plaza, what should I do?

If the FASTag scanner at the toll plaza is not working, pay by cash and the customer care representative will take up the issue with the NPCI about the issue at the specific plaza. In case, the FASTag is not readable, contact the customer care and you will be advised to pay by cash and the customer care team will escalate the issue with the issuer agency and its POS holder, who in turn will replace the tag, free of cost.

I have the RFID tag fitted in my new car. How to activate it?

RFID or Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEM) tag fitted by vehicle manufacturers does not act as a replacement for the SBI FASTag. Only tags issued by the SBI can be utilised for electronic cashless toll payments.

How to know what amount was debited from my SBI FASTag account?

Every time you pass through NPTC toll plazas, you will receive SMS notifications on your registered mobile number whenever the amount is deducted. Alternatively, you can log in to the SBI FASTag portal and check the balance.

What happens if there was an incorrect deduction? How will I get a refund?

You need to call the SBI FASTag customer care toll-free number: 1800 11 0018. The customer care team will review, and if found incorrect, they will refund the incorrect charges.

What should I do if I have lost/damaged my SBI FASTag?

How to surrender the SBI FASTag?

You need to give a written request to surrender/ cancel/close the SBI FASTag along with the existing tag. In case of demise of the account holder, legal heirs of the customer can raise a claim for the refund of the tag amount by producing the death certificate and other required documents. If the SBI FASTag is damaged, you need to surrender the tag and a new tag will be issued after charging the required fee.
