How to Get a PUC Certificate for your Vehicle in Tamil Nadu

Visit the VAHAN portal of the Parivahan website

Then, click on “PUC Certificate”

Enter the vehicle registration number, chassis number (last five characters), and verification code

Click on “PUC Details”

Print or download the pollution certificate

Take your vehicle whether it’s a two-wheeler or four-wheeler to the nearest emission testing centre

The testing centre operator will analyse the exhaust emission by placing the testing device inside the vehicle’s exhaust pipe

The operator will generate the PUC certificate based on the emission readings

Then, finally pay the applicable fees and collect the pollution certificate

Go to the official website of VAHAN

Click on ‘PUC certificate’ that will appear on the top of the page

Next, you need to enter details like vehicle registration number, chassis number, and captcha

Select ‘PUC details’ option

Finally, you will be able to view the complete details of PUC certificate. For future reference, you can either download or take a print of the PUC certificate. 

Locate a nearby emission test centre and take your vehicle to the centre

Position the vehicle as asked by the test operator

The operator will then insert an exhaust pipe to get the readings

Based on this, the readings will be displayed

The operator will take a picture of the readings and issue a PUC certificate for your vehicle

Carbon monoxide test: This keeps carbon monoxide emissions in check to and in turn measures the engine efficiency, air intake efficiency, proper fuel combustion, etc

Hydrocarbon test: This test is done to measure the unburnt fuels and check the combustion of fuel’s engine

Carbon dioxide test: This measures the carbon dioxide emissions to analyse the vehicle’s impact on the environment

Smoke density test: This measures the black smoke emitted from vehicles

Idling CO test: This measures the emissions of carbon monoxide during engine idling

Soundness of CNG/LPG Test: This is conducted to check for any leaks that increase the emissions

Click on ‘check PUC’ 

In the next step, you will be able to check the PUC status

Scroll to the top of this page. On the right-hand side, you will find a PUC widget

Enter your vehicle number.

Click on ‘check PUC’ to know its status 

Locate the ‘check PUC’ button at the bottom of this page

Click on the button and enter your vehicle number

Finally, check your vehicle’s PUC status
