Apart from being a necessary travel document, a passport is also accepted as proof of address and identity during many KYC-related procedures. Hence, the passport’s details should be updated. Here are the steps you need to follow for a change of address in your passport.
Step 1: Visit the online platform called Passport Seva.
Step 2: Log in if you’re already registered, or create an account first and log in with your username and password.
Step 3: Enter the requested information, like your birth date and name, then choose the nearest Passport Seva Office.
Step 4: You will receive an email on your registered email ID containing an activation link. Click that link and then move to the section called “Apply for Fresh Passport/Reissue of Passport”.
Step 5: Fill out your application with the required changes and schedule an appointment.
Step 6: Visit the selected Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) based on your appointment for verification.
After completing the process, the authorities will dispatch your updated passport through mail.
The following are the documents required for a change of address in passport.
Original passport of the applicant
Copy of the payment receipt or challan
Copy of the online application
Current address proof (Electricity bill, Aadhaar, voter ID, water bill, etc.)
Self-attested copy of the observation page issued by the issuance authority
Spouse’s passport copy (in case the current address of the applicant is the same as mentioned on the passport of the spouse)
The process related to a change of address requires you to get your passport re-issued. The passport re-issuance service is chargeable as per the type of application and type of passport you have.
