The Michaung cyclone is about to hit the southern Andhra Pradesh coastline between Nellore and Machilipatnam during the forenoon of 5th December. The IMD (Indian Meteorological Department) has stated this cyclone as a “severe cyclonic storm” and has issued an Orange alert for the same.

Cyclone/Flood Colour Codes You Should Be Aware of:

The Indian Meteorological Department uses 4 colour codes. 

  • Green: Everything is fine, no advisory is issued. 

  • Yellow: Severely bad weather spanning several days causing disruption in day-to-day activities. 

  • Orange/Amber: Potential for disruption with road, rail, and power interruptions.

  • Red: When extremely bad weather conditions can have a significant risk to life, a red alert is issued.

Don't get misled by rumours.

Check your house for loose tiles and repair doors and windows.

Don’t venture out until informed by the rescue personnel.

Don’t touch any loose and dangling wires from lamp posts.

Drive your vehicles carefully if you have to venture out.

  • There is 24 cm of rainfall during the night hours in Chennai from 08.30 am to 01:00 pm. The Green Corridor of the Airport to Anna Salai is maintained, while other roads are water-logged to a minimum of 1 foot. The public is advised to use the Green Corridor roads of Anna Salai and ECR for emergencies.

  • Fallen Trees and Removal: Trees that have fallen on roads have been removed at 37 places in the Greater Chennai Police Limit.
