Daman and Diu: An Overview

Daman and Diu together were a Portuguese colony before they were a part of independent India. Formerly, it used to be a separate Union Territory (UT); however, it was merged with the Dadra and Nagar Haveli UT to form a new Union Territory, that is, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu with effect from January 26, 2020. It is a popular destination among tourists, and some of the places to visit in these towns are the Church of Bom Jesus, Jampore Beach, St. Jerome Fort, Diu Fort, Nadia Caves and St. Paul Church.

  • The Church of Bom Jesus is located in Moti Daman and is known for its Roman architecture. It is home to six statues of Christian saints and attracts tourists, especially during festivals.

  • Jampore Beach is a go-to place in Daman if you love watching sunsets. You can relax, go on a walk on the shore or enjoy swimming in the ocean.

  • Diu Fort is a must-visit place in Diu. The fort is surrounded by sea from three sides. During Portuguese rule, it was important from an administrative standpoint.

  • Nadia Caves should be on your list when you visit Diu. These caves feature a network of tunnels with openings, and the sunlight passes through these openings to light up the cave.
