Haryana: An Overview

Haryana is a state that is rich in culture, heritage and natural vegetation. The state celebrates some of the unique fairs and festivals throughout the year, and on these occasions, the government declares public holidays. Some of Haryana's prominent fairs and festivals include Baisakhi, Surajkund International Crafts Mela, Mango Mela, Gangore and Lohri.

  • Baisakhi is a new year celebration festival. It involves offering prayers and preparing a feast. It is celebrated in April.

  • The Faridabad district hosts the Surajkund International Crafts Mela. It is one of the most famous fairs as it showcases craft works from all over the world.

  • Mango Mela is a fair held for a couple of days, showcasing a wide variety of mangoes. It also includes competitions for kids, cultural activities and serving of several delicacies.

  • Lohri is another prominent festival in Haryana. It involves people creating a bonfire and throwing puffed rice sweets into it. The festival marks the end of the winter season.
