Mizoram: An Overview

Mizoram is a state in the northeastern part of India. The state’s name derives from the words Mizo (the name of the state’s inhabitants) and Ram (land in the Mizo language). It is the second least populous state in the country and has the highest concentration of tribal people among all Indian states. Its geographical location makes for beautiful landscapes, and the prominent places in this state include Aizawl, Champhai, Lunglei, Serchhip and Lawngtlai.

  • Aizawl is the capital and the largest city of Mizoram, and it is also known as the Home of the Highlanders. You can visit this city to enjoy nature and get an insight into the culture of the people.

  • Champhai is a city where you can find ancient monuments and relics. The city is also called the Fruit Bowl of Mizoram, as it is located at an altitude of 1,678 metres. The places worth visiting in this city include Lengteng Wildlife Sanctuary and Murlen National Park.

  • Lunglei is a city that offers scenic views. You can also enjoy a helicopter ride from Aizawl to Lunglei if you are ready to spend time and money. You can also visit wildlife sanctuaries and the Bridge of Rock.

  • If you are fond of waterfalls and mountains, Serchhip is the perfect place to visit. Prominent locations of this place include Thenzawl Deer Park, the Mizoram Handloom Industry and Vantawng Waterfalls.
