If you do not submit your e-challan on time for an over-speeding offence in Chennai, your challan is likely to be sent to court. The penalties for not paying a speeding challenge can result in a fine of up to Rs. 10,000 and/or 6 months of prison, or Rs. 15,000 and/or 2 years of jail if the violation is repetitive. You may also be subject to a fine of Rs. 1,000 and revocation of your riding licence for 3 months. The traffic police do not have the right to demand payment from you; however, you have up to 60 days from the day of the offence to pay your e-challan before it goes to court.

Drivers in Chennai are required to carry a valid registration certificate (RC) and a valid driving licence. Additionally, it is also mandatory to carry a bike insurance policy and Pollution Under Control Certificate (PUC) while riding a bike. All drivers must also ensure that the vehicle is insured against third party damage or loss.

If you have received a wrong e-challan in Tamil Nadu for a traffic violation, you can follow these simple steps to challenge it.

  • Go to the official portal of E-challan -Digital Traffic/Transport Enforcement Solution at:echallan.parivahan.gov.in/. Once there, click on "Grievance System" and log into your account with your personal information and the number of your challan.
  • Upload proof that the e-challan was wrongly issued.
  • Finally, click on ‘Submit’ to send your complaint.
  • The traffic police department will then assess your case and give an update soon after reviewing it on the grievance system.
  • When you reach this page, look for the tab labelled ‘Ticket Status’ and fill out all necessary information including your e-ticket number and captcha code before clicking on ‘Check the Status’ for an update about your dispute case against the wrong traffic challan in Tamil Nadu.
