The Motor Vehicles (Amendment) Act 2019 charges a base fine of ₹20,000 for overloading transport vehicles. There are also other penalties charged.

Suspension of License: Results in the disqualification of the driver's licence for 3 months
Variations across States: State governments adjust the compounding fee. For instance, many states have considerably reduced the compound fee to ₹10,000 plus ₹1,500 per tonne.
