What is the Henley Passport Index?

All passports get ranked by the Henley Passport Index with data shared from the International Air Transport Association (IATA). IATA provides travel and tourism companies and travelers with up-to-date and extensive data and information. If a visa is not needed to travel to a particular country then a passport holder’s passport is awarded 1 point, which is also applicable upon entry to countries with visitor’s permit, visa on arrival or electronic travel authority (ETA).

If a passport holder does not require a visa to travel to a particular country with their passport, then their passport is awarded 1 point on the passport ranking index. The same points are also applicable to countries with visa on arrival, visitor’s permit, or electronic travel authority (ETA) upon entry.

The Henley passport index compares 199 passports, based on the number of countries passport holders can travel to, visa-free. Based on the number of countries that passport holders gain free access to travel to, the HPI assigns the corresponding rank to each passport. The HPI is a trusted travel tool that has been in use since 2006, offering travelers like you visa information, so you can travel better.
