    Bike Theft In India

Vehicle theft is a serious problem in India. For starters, more than 100,000 vehicles are stolen every day in India. As our economy grows, it is likely that more consumers will be buying vehicles. And as the number of vehicles on the road increases, car and bike theft will, too. Bikes are especially vulnerable to theft because they’re often parked in public places.

Do read the ACKO Theft Report 2022, where we analysed our data to better understand vehicle theft in India and its causes.

How Do You File A Claim For Your Bike?

If you notice that your bike has been stolen, here’s what you need to do:

Step 1: Inform the police and your insurance company immediately. File an FIR with the police.

Step 2: Submit the FIR and copies of your vehicle documents including registration certificate, Driving License etc to you insurer. Your original keys might also be required for submission.

Step 3: You will receive a Non-Traceable Certificate from the police if they have failed to trace your vehicle within the reasonable time frame, which is usually 21 days.

Step 4: Submit the NTC to the insurer. They will use this certificate as proof that your vehicle couldn’t be traced.

Step 5: Once the NTC has been verified and documents verified, the insurer will settle the same based on the IDV of your vehicle and the terms and conditions of your insurance policy.

    Importance of Comprehensive Bike Insurance

Now, it’s vital to note that you cannot make a claim for your stolen bike with just third party insurance. You need to have comprehensive bike insurance which will protect you from bike theft.

By not opting for comprehensive bike insurance, you’ll risk losing your savings on buying a new scooter or bike, apart from dealing with the financial loss of your precious bike.
