The Goa state government collects road taxes from all private and commercial vehicles plying on its roads. The road tax in Goa is collected on a one-time basis and is mandatory for all vehicles. The non-payment of this tax can result in heavy penalties.
Road tax Goa falls under the ambit of the Directorate of Transport. It is a major source of revenue for the state government, which is utilised for the maintenance of the state's road infrastructure.

The Goa road tax payment can be made online and offline.
For offline payment, you can visit your nearest RTO office and fill up the application form. Submit all the necessary documents and make the payment. You will receive a challan that must be saved for future reference.

Step 1: Go to this website -https://egov.goa.nic.in/echallanpg/
Step 2: Select Quick Pay
Step 3: Then, choose the online payment option
Step 4: Fill in all the required details, such as party name, mobile number, email ID, address and pin code; all these details are mandatory
Step 5: Next, press on the Service Details and choose '13-TRANSPORT'
Step 6: Choose the required service – "Passenger Tax", "Road Tax", or "Dealer Deposit" as applicable
Step 7: Select the "Other Details" option and enter the registration number and RTO code
Step 8: Click on "Validate", and the name and address will be shown
Step 9: Select initiate payment and complete the payment using one of the available payment options (net banking, debit or credit cards)
As paying the road tax is a mandatory requirement as per law, a default in payment leads to penalties and fines. The penalty for non-payment is calculated at the rate of 25% of the annual tax for every defaulting period. This amount has to be paid in addition to the unpaid due amount.

It is legal to drive other state vehicles in Goa for 30 days. However, per the State Transport Department's new mandate, if the vehicle is kept in Goa for more than 12 months, the vehicle owner should obtain a new registration certificate from the state government.
No tax is levied on motor vehicles used for agricultural operations on farmlands. Transportation of materials or persons for agriculture does not fall under agricultural operations.
