The Vizag RTO’s primary role is to issue driver and vehicle-related documents which are added to a central database. This includes both private and transport/commercial vehicles. It is not mandatory to produce a medical certificate to obtain a learner’s licence or a driving licence at the RTO. However, for those who are above 50 years of age, they need to submit a medical certificate. Also, those applying for a driving licence to drive a transport or a commercial vehicle will have to produce a medical certificate to obtain the driving licence.
The criteria to apply for a driving licence for a commercial or transport vehicle is that the applicant should have held a DL for driving a Light Motor Vehicle (LMV) at least for a period of 1 year.
To obtain a DL to ride a two-wheeler or a motorcycle with gear, the applicant should be at least 18 years of age. This is also the age criteria to apply for a DL to drive an LMV/Four-wheelers/Cars.
You can renew the driving licence within 30 days of the expiry at the respective RTO. You will have to pay a late fee to get your expired driving licence renewed.
The driving licence in India is valid for a period of 20 years or at the time of attaining the age of 50 years. After that, you need to renew the DL every 5 years. As for transport vehicles, the driving licence is valid for a period of 3 years and has to be renewed every 3 years.
