A child education planner is a strategic online tool that helps parents and guardians map out their child's educational journey. Thе planner employs thе concеpt of future valuе to еstimatе thе amount you might nееd for your child's education. It involves making informed decisions about various aspects of education, such as choosing the right schools, selecting appropriate curricula, identifying extracurricular activities, and planning for college or career paths.

Child Education Planner Formula
Jump Tag Icon

The child education planner calculator uses the concept of future value to calculate the accumulated corpus needed for your child's higher education. The formula employed is as follows.

Future Value =Present Value × (Expected returns + Rate of interest) × N

Here, 'N' represents the duration of the investment required, and the expected returns and interest rate are taken into account. By inputting the relevant information into the calculator, you can obtain an estimate of the total funds needed for your child's еducation.

For еxamplе, say your child is currently 3 years old and is expected to start college at 18, that gives a 15-yеar invеstmеnt duration (18 yеars - 3 yеars). Currently, the cost of higher education is Rs. 8 lakh, and it rises by 6% each year.

Future Value (FV) = Rs 8,00,000 * (1 + 0.06)^15 = Rs.19,17,247

Therefore, you would need Rs.19,17,247 when your child begins college.

Now, let us assume you have not saved anything for your child's education until today. If you begin a child investment plan today with a projected return of 7% per year,  using the PMT Function in Excel (7/100/12) for a monthly return rate, you can calculate the investment period in months.

Therefore,

Investment Period (N): 15 years * 12 months = 180 months

Present Value (PV): 0

Future Value (FV): Rs. 19,17,247

Using the formula FV = PV (1 + R)^N, you find a value of Rs. 6,049.

Therefore, you need to save Rs. 6,049 per month for the next 15 years to meet your child's future education needs. This is the same formula that an online child education planner uses to calculate the amount required for future education expenses.

Here are the key steps required for creating a child's education plan.

  1. Assessing Your Child's Needs and Interests: Before embarking on the journey of educational planning, it is crucial to assess your child's unique needs, interests, and learning styles. Take the time to observe their strengths and weaknesses, hobbies, and preferred subjects. This information will form the foundation for creating a tailored education plan.

  2. Choosing the Right School: School choice plays a significant role in shaping your child's educational experience. Research and visit different schools in your area, considering factors such as curriculum, teaching methodologies, extracurricular activities, and reputation. Aim to find an institution that aligns with your child's needs and values.

  3. Selecting an Appropriate Curriculum: Once you have chosen a school, delving into the available curricula options is essential. Whether it's a traditional, Montessori, or homeschooling approach, each curriculum has its own strengths and focus areas. Consider your child's learning style and preferences when making this decision.

  4. Identifying Extracurricular Activities: Education extends beyond the classroom. Extracurricular activities allow your child to explore their interests, develop social skills, and discover hidden talents. Research local clubs, sports teams, arts programs, and other activities that align with your child's passions

  5. Planning for College or Career Paths: While it may seem premature, early planning for college or career paths can benefit your child in the long run. Familiarise yourself with college admission requirements, scholarships, and career exploration resources. Encourage your child to pursue their passions while watching their future aspirations.
