Makhana is a famous ingredient, particularly in the western part of India. It is commonly used as a snack item and is rich in proteins and carbohydrates. For those of you who are not aware what Makhana is, let us tell you that it refers to the stems and seeds of the lotus plant. This ingredient is very good for those people who are on a diet and also it provides with lots of proteins and carbohydrates to keep healthy. It is not a very fatty food and hence, will help in weight control. Let us see how we can make a delicious curry from the makhana seeds, also known as Lotus Stem Sabzi.

1 cup puffed makhana seeds, 1 small cup green peas, 1 tomato sliced, 1-2 onions chopped, 2 tbsps ginger garlic paste, 1 tsp turmeric powder, 1 small cup water, 2 tbsps ghee, bunch of coriander leaves, sugar and salt as per taste
1. Heat ghee in a pan. Add the sliced onions. Saute till they are brown in colour.
2. Add the ginger garlic paste and saute till you find the ghee releasing from the sides. Add the turmeric powder and the sliced tomato.
3. Cook for 5-10 minutes till you get a good paste of it. Now add the water. Add a pinch of sugar and salt as per taste.
4. Add in the green peas. Cover with a lid and boil on simmer for 5 minutes.
5. Now, add the makhana seeds and cook till the seeds are cooked properly. Taste and add if more salt is required.
6. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot.
It is best enjoyed with wheat rotis or plain rice!
