Team AckoFeb 9, 2024

Teething rash in babies has always been an excruciating process for both babies and moms in particular. Sleepless nights, irritation, fever are few outcomes it is associated with. A teething rash is also known as drool or dribble rash which is caused due to the constant dripping saliva from the mouth of your baby. It sticks mostly over the neck chest and chin area. The rash initially may burst as a red spot or bumps which on worsening may look like blisters and produce a very foul smell. You may confuse them with skin infection like eczema or yeast infections.

The skin of your baby is too sensitive and gradually it starts reacting to the same. Also, it is known that the saliva contains certain digestive enzymes in the drool to cause such a highly irritated and unattractive skin condition. Your baby may experience pain, itching, irritation accompanied by sleeplessness, uneasiness, and fever. Excessive rubbing may worsen the situation. If left untreated it may fill with pus or may get infected with cracked skin because of the germs carried over by constant rubbing or scraping.

Dabbing

Keep a watch over your baby and in case of over drool or saliva, just dab it with a little pressure and during the feeds, use a bib so that the clothes and the folds of neck skin remain clean and dry after a feed.

Washing hands

If you find too much dribbling on hands and face, wash the area with a bar of mild soap and water and pat it dry as hands may be a carrier for the germs.
