If you have a valid Indian passport with a validity of 6 months post-travel to Nepal, you are eligible to visit Nepal.
In case you do not have a passport, you can showcase any other government-issued identity card.
Documents Required to Enter Nepal by Air
If you are travelling to Nepal by air, you must know the documents required to visit Nepal for Indian citizens. The following documents are to be showcased to the authorities in the Nepal airport.
A valid Indian passport
Photo Identity Card issued by the State Government/ Government of India/ Union Territory Administration in India or Election ID card issued by the Election Commission of India
Persons above 65 years and below 15 years of age are exempted from the approved identity document requirements. However, they have to showcase a document with a photograph to prove their identity and age
Children between the ages of 15 and 18 can showcase an identity card issued by the principal of their school
Emergency Certificate issued by the Embassy of India in Kathmandu, Nepal (for individuals who do not possess valid travel documents)

The following are the documents you must show at the Indo-Nepal border to enter the country hassle-free.
Registration certificate of your vehicle
Driving licence
A vehicle permit or Yatayat Anumati
A custom permit or Bhansar
What are the Entry Requirements for Indian Registered Vehicles in India?
If you plan to enter Nepal by road, you must know the following entry requirements to make a hassle trip to Nepal.
You must register your vehicle at the entry point in Nepal by paying a fee of Customs Duty
The vehicle can stay in Nepal for a maximum of 30 days only in a calendar year. You cannot extend the stay of your vehicle by paying extra charges
If you are opting for a 'Day Pass', you must return to India the same day and hand over the pass to the customs officials at the border
If you are staying for a long period, you must register your vehicle for the number of days you are residing in the country and pay a charge. The amount varies from NPR 100 to NPR 500 (Rs. 62 to Rs. 312) per day, depending on your vehicle type
You must exit Nepal before the expiration of your vehicle’s pass and re-enter by getting a new pass. However, you must not exceed the limit of 30 days in a year
In case, your vehicle has to overstay in Nepal, you must immediately contact the nearest Nepalese Customs Office and ask for an extension of the pass
If you exceed your stay in Nepal with an invalid car pass, the officials can seize your car
What are the Requirements for Applying for an Emergency Travel ID/Certificate?
If you are in Nepal and do not have valid documents as an Indian citizen to travel back to India, you must approach the Indian Embassy in Kathmandu in Nepal. The officials will issue you an emergency travel ID/Certificate to return to India. It is valid for a single return journey from Nepal, and you cannot apply for this document to travel to Nepal.
Here is a list of things you must submit when applying for an Emergency Travel ID/Certificate at the Embassy of India in Kathmandu.
Two recent passport-size photographs
Proof of Indian nationality (Voter ID copy or passport number)
Copy of return flight ticket (valid if you are travelling by air)
A fee of NPR 6,100 (Rs.3,813 approx).
Once you submit all the documents, the officials at the Indian Embassy will issue you an emergency certificate to travel back to India.

You can enter the country with a valid passport or an identity card issued by the Government of India or other concerned authorities.
