How to apply for a Driving Licence online in Kerala

These are the steps to help you request a Driving Licence online in Kerala.

  • Step 1: You need to start the process by applying for an LL or Learner’s Licence via the portal called Parivahan.

  • Step 2: Through “Online Services”, you can move to “DL Services”, which will take you to the Sarathi digital portal.

  • Step 3: Now, you must select “Kerala” as your state of residence to get to the home screen.

  • Step 4: Complete your application submission under “Apply for Learner Licence” and schedule the slot for a test. 

  • Step 5: Use your application number while taking the LL test. You will likely obtain this licence on the same day of passing the test.

  • Step 6: Now, go ahead and apply for a permanent licence via the same Sarathi portal by choosing the option “Apply for DL”.

  • Step 7: Submit the requested documents and pay the application/test fees to schedule your driving exam. Make sure you print/download the acknowledgement receipt.

  • Step 8: On the day of your test, you need to appear with your acknowledgement slip and follow the RTO inspector’s instructions.

After the exam, the authorities will record your biometric details and conduct a verification process. Successful verifications will result in your DL getting dispatched via speed post. 

How to apply for a Driving Licence offline in Kerala

Here is how you can go about applying for a DL offline in Kerala.

  • Step 1: You need to visit the RTO in your area and request an application form for LL.

  • Step 2: Fill it out with the correct details and apply with the documents and pay the  applicable fees. The RTO will also ask you to take the exam for a Learning Licence.

  • Step 3: Pass the exam to get yourself an LL and submit your DL application as well to decide on a slot for the driving exam.

  • Step 4: Appear for the exam after a month of holding the LL to showcase your driving skills.

  • Step 5: Submit your biometric data after finishing the test.

  • Step 6: Wait for the RTO to conduct their standard verifications and send the Driving Licence through the postal service.

  • For a bike DL with less than 50cc engine capacity, the applicant needs to be between 16 to 18 years old and must present parents’ consent in a letter.

  • For a private vehicle DL, one needs to be at the age of 18 or above to apply.

  • For a commercial vehicle DL, one needs to be at the age of 20 or above and passed at least the eighth standard.

  • An applicant must know the traffic regulations and pass the DL-related theoretical and practical exams.

  • An applicant must apply for a DL between 30-180 days of holding a LL.
