Your Child is Now Growing and Gaining Skills at a Good Pace

Team AckoFeb 8, 2024

At this stage, your child's growth and pace of attaining skills are becoming quite rapid. Sensory development relates to your child’s senses -- vision, hearing, touch, taste, and smell, which allow your child to explore the world around. For example, they will use their own name to refer to their own self. Some children may display dependent behavior; other children may be quite smart and are able to function alone.

What you need to know

Your child will start showing marked preferences and likings for certain things. They may favour a specific variety of clothing, or want to have a fixed type of food, or want to eat whenever they like. You must ensure that your child follows a set routine in their daily habits.

At this age, your child has some difficulty transitioning between activities; they may shuttle from one activity to another. By age 2, most children can walk up stairs one at a time, kick a ball, and draw simple strokes with a pencil. Each child grows and gains skills at their own pace. It is common for a child to be ahead in one area, such as language, but a little behind in another.
