What is a Critical Illness Health Insurance?

Critical illness, is a collective term referred to a life-threatening illness. Critical illness insurance offers a lump sum amount in case you are diagnosed with a listed serious condition after buying the policy. Buying a critical illness policy can prove to be a major financial help if we consider the skyrocketing costs of availing medical treatment for any major illness like cancer. One can use this financial help for any purpose say treatment, clearing any debts or save it for the future.

What are the benefits of a Women-specific Critical Illness cover?

The benefits offered by a women-specific critical illness cover are different from a normal critical illness health insurance plan. Let’s take a look at the coverage offered by this kind of health insurance:

Breast Cancer

Breast Cancer can occur when the cells in the milk-producing ducts or other cells in the surrounding areas begin to grow abnormally. According to research, hormonal, lifestyle and environmental factors may cause breast cancer.

Fallopian Tube Cancer

On rare occasions, cancer may develop in the tube that connects the ovaries to the uterus. It can mostly affect women between the ages of 50 to 60 years; however, age might not be a factor in rare cases.

Uterine Cancer

Cancer in the uterus can be identified in case of abnormal bleeding, discharge, pain with urination, and/or pelvic spasms. To reach a definite diagnosis your doctor may ask you to undergo a biopsy, X-ray, and/or CT or MRI scans.

Other types of cancer covered are Ovarian Cancer, Vaginal Cancer, and Cervical Cancer.

Congenital Disability Benefit

Congenital Disability is a condition that a baby may suffer by birth. Women-Specific critical illness insurance may include these benefits because giving birth to a child is a natural process carried out by women. The plan may pay 50% benefits depending upon the terms and conditions of the health insurance company. The list of congenital disabilities may include:

  • Down’s Syndrome

  • Congenital Cyanotic Heart Disease

  • Trachea-esophageal Fistula

  • Cleft Palate with or without cleft lip

  • Spina Bifida

This benefit may be available only for the first two children born to the policyholder before she turns 40 years of age.
