Allot A Part of the Wall in Your Child's Room For Surface Writing

The deep and lasting impression that chalk and surface writing leaves on your child’s writing exercises is something that is incomparable to anything that technology can offer to replace the same. Encouraging your child to write on surfaces in the formative years of his handwriting helps in laying a solid foundation for his future learning.

1. Allocate a spot on the wall of your child’s play room area to be used for chalk-on-surface writing. Ideally it should be in one side of your child’s play area, in proximity to the reading and writing material that your child utilizes. Have it painted properly and demarcate it from the rest of the wall.

2. Keep the materials that are required in a handy fashion. Organize the chalk by color and another space for keeping the pieces of chalk that are too small to use. Have your child use these colors however her imagination drives her to use them, giving them the space to express her imagination and creativity.

3. Advocate a sense of cleanliness and hygiene in using this space. Teach your child, by example that she should not mess up her writing area or her clothing while she is using the chalkboard. Encourage her to wipe the board clean with the assigned cloth or duster after she is done using the board and keep all the materials in their rightful places, ensuring that your child learns to be orderly and neat when handling her belongings.

4. While planning of a chalk board may appear to be a hassle and a whiteboard with markers may appear to be an easier alternative, the markers have solvents and harmful inks that are toxic to your little one.
