Dal Idli

An excellent, healthy recipe is Dal Idli. The main ingredients used are urad dal and besan, both rich in protein and curd which aids in digestion. By adding, vegetables like spinach, which is rich in iron, tomato and onion, both good source of vitamin C, you can make it even more nutritious and wholesome.

    Ingredients to make Dal Idli:

    1 cup udad dal, ¼ cup besan, ½ cup curd, 5-10 spinach leaves finely chopped, ½ tomato finely chopped, ½ onion finely chopped, a pinch of turmeric and 1tsp coriander powder, 2 tsp oil, salt as per taste.

    Steps to make Dal Idli:

    1. Wash and soak the urad dal for an hour. Grind to a smooth batter.

    2. Add besan, curd and salt to the batter. Mix thoroughly and keep it aside for 20 mins.

    3. In a pan, add oil. Saute the onions till translucent.

    4. Next, add the finely chopped tomatoes and spices. Add salt to taste.

    5. Next, add the spinach leaves. Cook the mixture well till soft.

    6. Add the mixture to the batter and give it a good stir.

    7. Grease the idli moulds with oil and pour the flavoured batter. Steam the idlis.

    Serve delicious yum dal idli with sambar. Begin a great day with a great breakfast.
