Worried about eating oily, greasy samosas from the street vendor? Here’s a recipe which will not only win everyone's heart but also provide with a lot of nutrition. Baked samosas are free of oil and are easy on the stomach. They are made using whole wheat flour which is rich in protein, iron, Vitamin B6, magnesium, dietary fibre and potassium.
Contents
Ingredients: 2 cups whole wheat flour, ¼ tsp ajwain seeds, 5 tablespoons of oil, 1 tsp salt, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 1 tbsp ginger chilly paste, 2 cups of boiled potatoes chopped, 1/3 cups green peas, ½ tsp chilli powder, ¼ tsp of garam masala powder, ½ tsp coriander powder, ½ tsp aamchur powder, 2 tbsp chopped coriander leaves, salt.
Steps:
1. Take the flour, salt, ajwain seeds in a bowl and add 5 tbsp oil to it. Mix well to get a breadcrumb like consistency. Add water part by part and knead into a firm dough. Set aside for 20 minutes.
2. Heat oil in a pan and add the cumin seeds. Wait till they splutter. Add the ginger-chilly paste and sauté for another couple of minutes.
3. Add chilli powder and coriander powder, stir and cook for a few more minutes.
4. Now add the potato cubes and green peas and mix with the spices well.
5. Add garam masala and aamchur powders onto the mixture and stir well.
6. Add salt and coriander leaves. Saute for a few minutes and remove from flame.
7. Roll out little balls from the dough and flatten it into a circle using the rolling pin. Cut the circle diametrically.
8. Add a little water to the cut edges and double fold each part to form a cone.
9. Using a spoon place the filling in the centre of the cone and seal the edges.
10. Bake the samosas in a pre-heated oven at 180oC for half an hour.
11. Serve hot with tamarind chutney or tomato ketchup.
