At present, soft steamed foods are the best option. This Button Idli in Sambhar Pool is the perfect meal, as it is loaded with carbohydrates and protein.

For Button Idlis: Idli rice – 2 cups, urad dal – ½ cup, salt to taste
For Sambhar: Arhar ki dal – ½ cup, turmeric powder – ½ tsp, salt to taste, oil – 2 tsp, Mustard seeds – ½ tsp curry leaves – 10-12, chopped onion – 1 cup, chopped tomato – 1 cup, sambhar masala – 2 tbsp, tamarind pulp – 2 tbsp
1. Wash and soak rice and urad dal separately for 4-5 hours. Drain and blend in a blender together with salt till smooth. Keep aside to ferment for 6-8 hours.
2. Grease mini idli molds and pour the batter in each mold. Steam for 15-20 minutes, till done.
3. Cook the dal in a pressure cooker with salt and turmeric powder till done.
4. Heat oil, add mustard seeds and curry leaves. Add onion and fry for 2 minutes
5. Add tomatoes, half a cup of water and sambhar masala and cook for 3-4 minutes. Add the cooked dal and tamarind pulp and cook for another 4-5 minutes. Serve hot with button idlis.
