Goan Khatkhate is a Goan mixed vegetable stew. You would love to try this recipe. This stew is very nutritious as it is made with different vegetables.

½ cup green beans (washed and cut into 1½ inch piece), ¼ cup channa dal, ½ cup carrots (washed and cut into 1 inch cubes), ½ cup potato (washed and cut into 1 inch cubes), 1 drumstick (washed and cut into 1½ inch piece)
For gravy:
¼ cup toor dal (washed and soaked for an hour), 1 cup grated coconut, 10 tirphal berries/sichuan pepper, ½ tsp. turmeric, ½ tsp. cumin seeds, 2 tsp. red chili powder and coriander powder, 1 marble sized tamarind, 1 tsp. jaggery, 1 tsp. oil, 5-6 curry leaves
For the gravy:
1. Grind grated coconut, chilli powder, turmeric powder and tamarind in a blender to a fine paste.
For Khatkhate:
1. Boil 2 cups of water and add toor dal and cook for 15 minutes, add the vegetables and cook till all the vegetables become soft.
2. Pour the ground paste into the cooked vegetables and mix. Crush the tirphal berries and add to the gravy. Cook for 5 minutes on low flame.
3. The gravy should not be too dry or watery.
Try this recipe today and serve with rice or puris.
