Are you bored with the regular everyday food? Try this scrumptious Kerala Parippu, full of protein, carbohydrates, and vitamins.

½ cup yellow moong dal washed and drained, 1/4 tsp turmeric powder, 1½ tbsp coconut oil, ½ tsp mustard seeds, 10 curry leaves, 1/4 cup thinly sliced onions, salt to taste
To be blended into a paste with 1/4 cup of water: ½ cup grated coconut, ½ tsp cumin seeds, 1/4 cup chopped onions
1. Cook the dal, turmeric powder and 1 ½ cup of water in a pressure cooker on a medium flame for 6 whistles.
2. Combine the dal mixture, prepared paste, salt and ¾ cup of water in a deep pan, and cook on a medium flame for 6-7 min, stirring occasionally. Keep aside.
3. Heat the coconut oil, add the mustard seeds and curry leaves and sauté for a few seconds.
4. Add the onions and sauté for 4 to 5 minutes, till golden brown.
5. Pour this over the prepared dal mixture, mix well, and serve hot.
