A flavourful combination of coconut and gur (jaggery) wrapped in rice flour, made like a dumpling is a wonderful sweet delicacy from Maharashtra. This delicacy is offered to Lord Ganesha during festival and is rich in calcium.

1 cup rice flour, 1.5 cup water, a pinch of salt, 1/4 tsp ghee, 1.5 cup fresh grated coconut, 1 cup powdered jaggery, 1 tsp green cardamom powder
1. Heat a skillet and dry roast the coconut.
2. Now take another pan and add water to it. When it comes to boil add jaggery. When the mixture starts to thicken add coconut to it. Mix well
3. Add green cardamom powder to it and stir well. Remove from flame after 1-2 minutes. Let it cool.
4. Prepare dough by adding 1 cup hot water to rice flour. Add ghee and salt and knead a smooth dough.
5. Now take a little dough, roll it into a ball, flatten it well. Add a spoonful of coconut jaggery mixture and seal it making a pattern of flower bud.
6. Put these modak in a muslin cloth and steam them for 10- 15 minutes.
Serve them warm and relish it.
