Nutritious Missi Roti

Missi Roti is a healthy and nutritious food item made in Punjab. The rotis are made using whole wheat flour, besan and ajwain. While whole wheat flour and besan offer dietary fibre, iron, Vitamin B6, magnesium, calcium, protein, potassium and sodium; ajwain enhances the efficiency of the digestive system, has anti-bacterial and antiseptic properties and is effective in treating respiratory problems. Here’s how you can make missi rotis at home.

    Ingredients: 2 cups of whole wheat flour, a cup of besan, 1 teaspoon of ajwain, 2 green chillies finely chopped, 1/3 cup of finely chopped onions, a pinch of hing, 1 tsp of salt, 3 tsp oil, oil. 

    Steps: 

     1. Take all ingredients but water in a bowl and mix well. Add water part by part, mix, knead and prepare a soft dough. Set aside for about 10 minutes. 

     2. Roll out equal sized balls from the dough and flatten using the a rolling board and pin into 6 inch rotis. 

     3. Heat a tawa and place a roti onto the surface. Once the base becomes to cook, pour some ghee onto the uncooked surface and flip. 

     4. Repeat till the roti is fully cooked. 

     Serve with a vegetable curry and pickle. Make sure you try this out today!
