Sannas is a steamed rice cake that has a soft texture and pleasant flavour. You would love this rice cake with an amazing taste. Raw Goan Rice, popularly known as Sannas, is loaded with iron, fiber, and protein.

Ingredients to make Sannas:

2 cups raw Goan rice, 1 tbsp instant dry yeast, ¾ cup coconut, 2 tbsp. sugar, salt to taste

Steps to make Sannas:

1. Clean, wash and soak the rice overnight in enough water.

2. Next day, drain the water completely and keep aside. Combine yeast, ½ tbsp. sugar and 3 tbsp. warm water in a deep bowl, mix well, cover it and keep aside for 15 minutes.

3. Add the soaked rice, coconut, remaining 1½ tbsp. of sugar and water in a blender and grind it to smooth.

4. Transfer the mixture into a deep bowl, add the yeast, sugar mixture and salt and mix well.

5. Cover it with a lid and keep aside for 2 hours for fermenting.

6. Mix well once the batter is fermented and grease the sanna moulds or small katori bowls and pour the batter till ¾ of the moulds and steam in a steamer on a medium flame for 10 to 12 minutes.

7. Cool slightly, loosen the edges with the knife and demould it.

Serve hot with your favourite curry for breakfast.
