Urad dal, the main ingredient of this dish, has protein, fat, and carbohydrates. This dal is one of the richest sources of proteins and Vitamin B. This helps boost the energy levels in the body and keeps active. The best benefit of ingesting urad dal is that it enhances digestion because of its rich fiber content. Vitamin B encourages mental and physical growth.

    Ingredients to make Sunnundalu:

    1 cup urad dal, ½ to 3/4 cup jaggery, ½ cup ghee, few walnuts and almonds

    Steps to make Sunnundalu:

    1. Wash urad dal in lot of water twice and drain it off in a colander.

    2. Dry it on a clean cotton cloth. Spread it evenly and dry, pat it with the cloth to remove excess moisture.

    3. Immediately add it to a heavy bottom pan and dry roast till you get a nice aroma. Do not over fry or burn. Cool it completely.

    4. If using jaggery, grate it and set aside.

    5. Powder the dal, you can do it slightly coarse or smooth.

    6. Add grated jaggery to the dal powder and blend well. Heat ghee and pour little by little to the ground flour, add the nuts and roll them to balls.

    Sunnundalu is ready to be served.
