Tangy Dhokla

A healthy Gujarati snack called Tangy Dhokla is prepared using rice, which has carbohydrates and urad dal, which has protein and is very healthy. It’s a perfect evening snack and ideal for your baby.

    Ingredients to make Tangy Dhokla:

    1 cup basmati rice, ¼ cup urad dal, ½ cup yoghurt, 2 tsp seseme seeds, ½ tsp oil, ½ tsp baking soda, salt as per taste

    Steps to make Tangy Dhokla:

    1. Wash the rice and dal and soak them together for 3-4 hours.

    2. In the thick batter, add the yoghurt and salt. Stir well and keep the batter in a warm place for 6 hours for fermentation.

    3. In an idli steamer or a pressure pan, add water. Bring to a boil.

    4. Add oil to the batter and baking soda. Give a quick stir and pour the batter onto a greased plate and spread uniformly.

    5. Keep the dhokla plate in the steamer and steam for 10 to 15 minutes. If using pressure pan, don’t put the weight(whistle) and steam cook.

    6. In a small pan, add oil. Once warm, add sesame seeds. Once they splutter, add them on top of the tangy dhokla. Cut in crisscross shapes or small squares.
