Try out this traditional recipe to delight your family with, between meals. This is a healthy snack to munch on when you crave for something sweet. Urad dal carries high protein composition.

    Ingredients to make Thaen Mittai:

    1 cup rice, ¼ cup urad dal, orange red food coloring as needed, oil for deep frying, 1 cup sugar, a pinch of salt, ¼ cup water

    Steps to make Thaen Mittai:

    1. Wash the rice and dal separately for 3 times and soak them in water for 3 hours. Drain the water and add first the urad dal to a mixer grinder and grind to thick smooth paste adding very little water and then add rice draining water completely to smooth paste, add the pinch of salt and mix the thick batter well.

    2. Heat the sugar and water in a sauce pan and stir till the sugar dissolves and bring it boil and after 5 minutes when the syrup is thick remove from heat.

    3. Heat oil in a frying pan and dip your fingers in water and take small portion of the batter and drop in hot oil, reduce the flame and fry till crispy and golden. Drain and dip into the sugar syrup to soak. Drain it after 2 minutes.

    Serve them to everyone as healthy snacks.
