Veg Sawhchiar is a traditional Mizoram style dish. Relish this rice pulao with paneer. Paneer is rich in calcium, protein, and healthy carbs.

    Ingredients to make Veg Sawhchiar:

    1 cup basmati rice soaked for half an hour, ½ cup cubed paneer, 2 cardamom pods, 1 bay leaf (tej patta), 2 Kashmiri dry red chiles, 1 cup shredded lettuce, ½ cup finely chopped spinach leaves (palak), black pepper powder as desired, salt to taste, oil and ghee as required.

    Steps to make Veg Sawhchiar:

    1. Heat little oil and ghee in shallow frying pan and fry paneer on both the sides until golden brown, remove and keep the paneer aside.

    2. In a big pan boil 2 cups of water and add soaked basmati rice to it along with cardamom pods, bay leaf, Kashmiri red chillies, cover and cook while stirring occasionally.

    3. Blanch the lettuce and spinach in hot water for 4 minutes and transfer the chopped greens to the rice.

    4. When the rice is half cooked, add salt to taste and give a gentle stir.

    5. Cover and simmer until the rice is cooked and fluffy. Add the paneer, mix and Veg Sawhchiar is ready.

    Delight with tasty Veg Sawhchiar along with favourite raita.
