Team AckoMay 16, 2022
People buy two wheeler insurance because it is mandatory and it provides financial security. However, no one wishes to be in a position where they face an unfortunate event and need to raise a claim for it.
A claim in a comprehensive bike insurance policy occurs mostly in the following conditions –
When you face an accident and the bike is damaged
When you are hurt
When you hurt someone else or damage someone’s property
When the bike is stolen
Whenever a claim occurs in the bike insurance policy, you want the settlement of your claim as early as possible. However, what many of you don’t know is that there is a particular claim process which is to be followed for the claim settlement to be quick and easy. If you don’t follow the claim process or make any other mistake, there might be some problems in the settlement of your claim.

The first thing which you should do after a bike insurance claim is to inform the insurance company immediately. When the company is informed, your claim would be registered and you can follow-up with the company for a quick settlement. The company would also help you find the nearest garage for cashless settlements.
If you want a cashless settlement of the claim, you should get the bike repaired at the insurer’s preferred garage. The garage is tied-up with the insurance company and allows cashless repairs.
When filing an online claim, you are required to enter the details of your bike insurance policy. Be careful in filling up the details. If the details are not correct, the claim would be delayed.
There are certain exclusions in the policy. Claims made for exclusions are rejected by the insurance company. So, avoid making any claim in the policy if the claim is for an excluded instance.
Two wheeler claims can be of two types – comprehensive and third party claims. If you hurt a third party or damage other person’s property it would be a third party claim. If, however, your own bike is damaged, there would be a comprehensive claim. Understand the type of claim faced in your online two wheeler insurance policy and report it correctly.

In case of third-party claims, a First Information Report (FIR) is mandatory. File a FIR and have the copy ready when filing your claim. The insurance company would want a copy of the FIR in case of third-party claims when the claim is filed.
The claim in your online two wheeler insurance policy should be filed at the earliest. You should not delay in making the claim as it would not only delay the settlement, it might also make the insurance company suspicious of the claim. Moreover, any consequential losses would also not be covered under the policy.
When you make a claim, besides informing the insurance company and filing the claim form, there are some documents which are required to be submitted. You can also upload the documents online to speed up the claim process. The documents which you require include the driving license, RC Book, policy bond, etc. Keep these documents handy with you when filing the claim. This process varies from one insurer to another.
When filing the claim, be truthful about the events leading up to the claim. Be honest and truthful in reporting the claim. This would help with the survey which would be conducted by the insurance company before approving the claim.
After the claim is reported and you take the bike to the nearest garage, the insurance company would arrange for a surveyor to inspect the damages suffered. Assist in the survey process and answer the surveyor’s questions honestly.
When you follow these tips in claim filing, your claims would be easily filed and also settled quickly. So, be attentive, both when you buy two wheeler insurance and also when you make a claim.
