Your kid at this stage finds it interesting in turning something old into new. Try this simple activity that transforms tired old crayons into fancy new candles. You can also join your kiddo in this activity and also spend a quality time with your little one. This activity not only helps in developing your sweetie pie's gross motor skills and learning skills but it also triggers his creativity. Moreover, the materials used in this activity are old or recycled ones so the cost of this activity is almost nothing.
 
Requisites: Crayons, milk carton, paraffin wax, scissors, ice cubes, string.
 
Steps:
 
1) Trim the top off of the cardboard milk carton.
 
2) Plait three pieces of string together to make a wick that burns easily.
 
3) Cut the paraffin wax into small chunks and melt it carefully over a low flame in a saucepan on the stove.
 
4) Choose different coloured crayons and add to the wax once it's totally melted.
 
5) Use a pair of scissors and dip the string into the paraffin mixture.
 
6) Hold the string so that it hangs down the middle of the carton and fill the carton with ice cubes.
 
7) Pour wax mixture into the carton (over the ice cubes) and leave it for a few hours to harden. The ice will melt as the candle sets.
 
8) Once the candle is hard, pour off the excess water from the ice cubes and peel off the carton.
 
Now your lovely candles are ready to use. Always supervise your kiddo during this activity as, wax will become incredibly hot when it is melted and can burn terribly.
