As your child grows up, he needs lots of freedom to explore and learn new things. He gets influenced very easily. As a parent, it is a must to keep a watch on your child’s new explorations, new friends or new habits on a regular basis.

Preventing your child from bad influences, bad company and bad habits help in the long run to set your child on the correct path in life. For a parent, this can be quite challenging because too much of questioning would mean that you are interfering and not allowing growth, change and development in yourchild. Children usually hide about test failures, bullying, damages done, about relationships, about not doing homework or chores, drugs, alcohol, smoking, etc.

5 signs your child is hiding something from you

If you observe any or all of these signs in your child below, chances are likely that he is hiding something from you.

1. Abrupt change in behavior

You might notice that your child has deviated from his everyday routine and started to engage in new activities that may not seem too constructive. It is time for you to go through his new schedule and compare it with the old one. You might find out that he has made strange new friends or even his language would appear to have new vocabulary, one that may not be very pleasant. His behavior pattern might have sudden changes, wherein he may seem more aggressive than before.

2. Lying

Your child will start lying about small things. He shall try to cover up something with lies so that he will not get caught. When you start asking about any suspicious activities, watch out for the surprise expression and also observe his body language to understand that your child is lying or hiding something from you.

3. Using more of the Internet, Media, TV, Tablets, etc.

Your child would be busy with distractions so that they don’t have to answer questions or lie often. So they avoid having conversations with you and will spend most the time browsing the internet and watching TV instead.

4. Getting detached from the family

You will notice that your child will start detaching from all of his close members of the family. He will now prefer staying alone and keeping things to himself. He wants to ensure that he will not be caught for his wrongdoings, and hence, begin to avoid family gatherings.

5. Physical changes

Your child hiding something from you usually will result in crankiness in your child, because he is mostly focused on not getting caught. His temper becomes very bad and intolerable. He will often yell or threaten people around him. His sleep pattern would also get disturbed; because of which he is likely to have drastic mood swings.

Always keep an open environment at home and engage in children’s activities. Ask them questions and let them know that you are genuinely concerned about their life. This way, your kid would always be more likely to share his thoughts and feelings.

If you come across anything unusual, refrain from punishment. Punishment can further lead to hiding and lying. Instead, talk it out with them and check how the issue can be rectified.
