Here are the steps to fetch or add car insurance in DigiLocker.

Via the DigiLocker website

  • Step 1: Log into your account on the DigiLocker website (https://digilocker.gov.in/) using your mobile number/Aadhaar number/username (Your DigiLocker account is created through your mobile or Aadhaar number).

  • Step 2: Select ‘Get the document’ or ‘Banking and Insurance’.

  • Step 3: Choose ‘Acko General Insurance Ltd.’ and click on ‘Two-wheeler’.

  • Step 4: Enter your ACKO car insurance policy number and mobile number registered with us.

  • Step 5: DigiLocker will fetch your car insurance policy document in PDF and is saved automatically to your account.

You can access your digital car insurance policy in the ‘Issued Document’ section.

Via the DigiLocker app

  • Step 1: Download the DigiLocker mobile app and create your account by using your Aadhaar or mobile number.

  • Step 2: Select the option ‘Banking and Insurance’.

  • Step 3: Click on ‘Acko General Insurance Ltd.’ and click on ‘Two-wheeler’.

  • Step 4: Enter your car insurance policy number and mobile number.

  • Step 5: DigiLocker will fetch and store your document in digital format in your account.

You can access your digital car insurance document at any time from the ‘Issued Documents’ section in the DigiLocker app.

Mandatory car insurance documents to carry in India

Following is the list of car insurance documents you must carry while driving on Indian roads.

  • Car Registration Certificate (RC): A valid RC must be carried at all times as it allows you to drive four-wheelers legally on Indian roads.

  • Car Pollution Under Control (PUC) certificate: The PUC document certifies that your car’s emission is under the required limit and is not more than what is stated by the authorities.

  • Car Insurance Policy: Every car owner must possess a valid car insurance policy to drive on Indian roads as per The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.

  • Driving Licence (DL): Driving a car on Indian roads without a valid DL is a punishable offence under The Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
