A PAN identification, also known as Permanent Account Number identification, is an essential document in India. By utilising a PAN card, you can authenticate your identity, assist in preventing tax avoidance, and support the government in upholding an open financial structure.

Having a PAN card is compulsory if you engage in any financial transactions in India, as stipulated by Regulation 114B of the Indian Tax Regulations. Unfortunately, certain individuals, whether intentionally or unintentionally, participate in monetary transactions without a PAN and breach this specific regulation. Consequently, they end up paying heavy penalties.

Therefore, possessing this document with a unique alphanumeric number of ten digits is a necessity. So, gather the documents needed for PAN card and apply for it. But before applying, remember that you need to bear certain fees and charges.

Apart from understanding what are the documents required for PAN card, you also need to learn about the fees associated with it. The charges will vary for an Indian resident and a foreign citizen. Jump into this article to learn everything you need to know about PAN card fees, mode of payments, refund process, and more.

What is a Permanent Account Number (PAN) Card?

  • The Income Tax department gives a laminated plastic card once a PAN is allotted.

  • While a PAN is a number, a PAN Card is a physical card with your Permanent Account Number, name, birthdate, name of your father/spouse, and photograph. This card can be used as identity or birth date proof.

Anyone intending to obtain a new PAN Card should know the associated fees, whether an Indian citizen or an NRI. The PAN Card is a crucial document that all Indian citizens must acquire. The Income Tax Department of India issues it under the regulations of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.

Primarily, it is issued to record financial transactions, particularly revenues. Therefore, individuals with a source of income must possess a valid PAN Card. Note that a PAN Card does not serve as proof of nationality, as even foreign national investors are required to hold a valid PAN Card.
