Anyone intending to obtain a PAN Card should know the associated fees, whether a citizen or a foreign national. The PAN Card is a crucial document that all Indian citizens must acquire. The Income Tax Department of India issues it under the regulations of the Central Board of Direct Taxes.
Primarily, it is issued to record financial transactions, particularly revenues. Therefore, individuals with a source of income must possess a valid PAN Card. Note that a PAN Card does not serve as proof of nationality, as even foreign national investors are required to hold a valid PAN Card.
There are different ways in which you can apply for a PAN card. Let’s explore the options.
Protean or UTITSL portal (previously NSDL eGov) can be used to apply for PAN online.
Similarly, any request for change/correction in PAN data or reprint of PAN card can be made online.
According to the official Income Tax Department of India website, the approximate PAN application fee is INR 93 (excluding GST) for an Indian location and INR 864 (excluding GST) for a foreign address. It varies according to the mode and type of application.
You can pay the application fee through various sources.
After accepting the application and payment, the applicant should send the supporting documents by courier/post to Protean/UTIITSL. The PAN will be processed only once the valid documents reach Protean/UTIITSL.

The PAN Card is an obligatory document issued by the Income Tax Department of India. A PAN Card may get damaged, or correction may be required on the document relating to the printed information. In such cases, the PAN holder can get it rectified. However, the person has to pay for a specific PAN Card. The applicable fees are as follows:
If the mailing address is within India, a charge of INR 50 will be applicable.
If the mailing address is abroad, a fee of INR 959 (including GST) should be paid.
With the surge and ease of digital transactions, the government has introduced an e-PAN Card option. It enables PAN card holders to carry a digital copy of their PAN Cards in PDF format. The e-PAN Card application process is more cost-effective than applying through a TIN Center. The fee for an e-PAN Card application is given below:

The fee for a PAN Card varies based on the type of application and how you want to receive it. A new PAN card application costs INR 107, and a reprint or correction application costs INR 50. You can pay PAN Card fees through the following methods:
Demand Draft: A demand draft can be drawn in favour of NSDL-PAN, payable in Mumbai.
Online Payment: You can use NSDL or UTIITSL websites to pay online using your credit card, debit card, or net banking.
E-wallets: Different options of e-wallets like Mobikwik, Freecharge and Paytm are available to make online payments.
Cheque or Cash: You can pay the PAN card fee via cash or cheque if you make a physical application.

A PAN Card refund means getting back the money you paid for your PAN Card application. You can apply for a PAN Card refund in these situations:
You made extra payments for the same PAN Card application.
You paid more than what was needed.
Your PAN Card application was rejected, but you had already paid for it.
To request a PAN Card refund, follow these steps:
Visit the NSDL or UTIITSL website.
Fill out the Refund Request Form.
Provide details like your PAN Card application number, payment date, and transaction ID.
Give your valid bank account number, IFSC code, and other necessary refund details.
According to the Income Tax Department of India, the following individuals are permitted to use and pay the PAN Card fee on behalf of others:
Chartered Accountants (CAs) are authorised to do so.
Parents can do this for their underage children.
Agents and other duly authorised representatives can pay the PAN Card fee for applicants, provided they submit an authorisation letter, required documents, and payment details.
Employers are allowed to do it for their workers.
A PAN card is a crucial, valuable document for various purposes. Not only is it accepted nationally, but it also acts as your identity proof. Usually, the PAN card application process takes about 15-20 days. However, there is an option for an instant PAN card, which can be ready within 48 hours.
