The gigantic automobiles market in India is ruled by Indian players as much as it is by foreign companies. Thanks to the ‘people’s man’, respectable Mr. Tata, we Indians can lay our hands on a four-wheeler that is worth rupees 1.5 lakh and also one that dons a price tag of more than tens of millions. We are of course talking about the beast Jaguar (pun completely intended!).

In the same Indian market, you will also find masterpieces like Porsche, BMW, and Mercedes. All of these are exquisite works of art in themselves. They defy the boundaries of speed, comfort, technology, and of course imagination. But is this enough? For our dissatisfied human brains, the only constant is change! Something new should be brought to the table over and over again. Thus, we modify, our living and workspaces, and things that we own, especially our cars and bikes. So, let us take a look at how some simple cars were turned into ferocious beasts by none other than DC Designs, Mumbai.
The company-made specifications of one of the most popular SUVs in the Indian market include variants that run on 2755cc diesel and 2694cc petrol engines. Buyers are given options to choose from automatic and manual transmissions along with a range of bright colors.
The modified versions of Fortuner focus on aesthetic changes that include (but are not limited to) up to 4 DRLs, a grille that merges with the front wheel arches, rear bumpers that sport twin exhausts and chrome finishing. The seats are replaced with leather captain seats with automatic reclining, that lean up to 150 degrees. Luxury features include two 10.4″ LDC screens with USB, 7-liter chiller (for chilling water and soft drinks, of course, *wink*) and reading lamps. Last but not the least an inverter to run all electronic appliances without the engine’s power.
The talk of the town is definitely the modified Hyundai Elantra that will blow you away simply with the aesthetics. It sports an astonishing carbon-black grille, multi-spoke alloys with toned brake calipers and a triangular exhaust with a diffuser. Just imagine this beauty gliding under the night sky!
The old Ambassador has undergone a drastic change with the help of modifications. This one now looks like a cross between the Beetle and Mini Cooper. Black and chrome-finished grille, additional fog lamps, alloy wheels, modified bumpers and tail lamps are now offered.
Originally, Maruti Suzuki Swift comes with 1248cc diesel and 1197cc petrol engine variants. Buyers can choose from automatic or manual transmission models. Various generations of Swift are also available in the market.
The modified version has a slick front grille & dual tone bumper, fog lamps that appear to be below the headlights & 6 LED DRLs beside the fog lights. The interiors can be bold red, as per the customer’s choice, with a dual tone dashboard.

The popular SUV has undergone a whole bunch of changes from classy-looking exteriors to feature-rich interiors. The modified Duster’s very first catch is the matte body and strips of 10 LEDs that have replaced the front projectors. An additional set of fog lamps now illuminate the road for a car that dons 10-spoke alloy wheels. The interiors are at the center of attraction with premium leather seats, adjustable LCD screen, laptop table, chiller box, and ambient lightings.
And now the main question…
With enhanced looks and features, car modifications increase the risk of insuring your car. It becomes more susceptible to theft or vandalism. Apart from the general risk, your insurer may charge more depending upon specific modified car parts like engine & mechanics, bodywork, interior, brakes & suspension, paintwork or wheels. You also need to be proactive about informing your insurer about the modifications. If not, your claim would get rejected in case of any damage to the vehicle. The cost of your car insurance policy will increase with each modification.
Thus, even though modifications increase the beauty quotient of your car, you may want to stay away from them if you are conscious about your finances. If not, well… the sky’s the limit!
