With everything now digital, booking a passport appointment online has made accessing this important government service much more convenient. No long queues at the Passport Seva Kendra (PSK), no waiting for hours, and no last-minute paperwork hassle.
Whether you’re looking to apply for a new passport, renew an existing one, or schedule a Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) appointment, the first step is to book your appointment through the Passport Seva Online Portal.
Although the process has become easier, it can still be confusing to navigate. That's why we've created this guide, which breaks the entire process down in simple terms. By the end, you’ll have a clear understanding of each step, allowing you to complete your passport application smoothly and without confusion.

Before you start the passport appointment process, here are three rules and requirements to keep in mind:
Passport appointment slots are assigned automatically. This depends on availability at your selected Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or Post Office Passport Seva Kendra (POPSK).
You must complete the online payment on the Passport Seva Portal before your appointment can be confirmed.
You can reschedule or cancel your passport appointment only twice for the same Application Reference Number (ARN). After two times, no further changes are allowed.

Step 1: Visit the official Passport Seva website, the government agency that issues passports in India.
Step 2: If you are a first-time user, click on ‘New User Register’ to create an account. If you already have an account, log in with your user ID and password.
Step 3: After logging in, click on the ‘Apply for Fresh Passport/Re-issue of Passport’ option.
Step 4: Fill in the required details, such as your personal details, address, and other passport-related information.
Step 5: Select a passport office of your choice and pick a date and time for your appointment.
Step 6: Pay the passport application fee using one of the available payment modes (net banking/credit card/debit card).
Step 7: Once you have successfully booked your appointment, you will receive a confirmation email or SMS with the appointment details.
Step 8: On the day of your appointment, bring all the required documents, including your application form, proof of identity, proof of address, and any other relevant documents.
Note: Availability of appointment slots and the application process may vary depending on your location and the type of passport you are applying for.
Once you have selected your Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) appointment slot, it’s time to choose a payment method and submit your application form. You can pay the application fee in two ways:
Online payment
SBI Challan
Note: If you only need a passport enquiry appointment (available at select PSKs), you can also proceed with payment and booking in the same way.
To make an online payment and confirm your passport appointment, you need to:
Step 1: Generate an ARN after completing the online form or uploading an e-Form on the Passport Seva Portal.
Step 2: Select your preferred appointment quota (Normal/Tatkaal) and choose an available appointment slot.
Step 3: Click 'Pay and Book Appointment' to proceed.
Step 4: You will be redirected to SBI’s Multi Option Payment System (MOPS) website.
Step 5: Choose your payment method:
Debit/Credit Card: Enter your card details and complete the transaction.
Net Banking: Select your bank, log in to your Net Banking account, and authorise the payment.
Step 6: After successful payment, you will be redirected to the Passport Seva Online Portal.
Step 7: An Appointment Confirmation screen will appear with your confirmed date, time, and PSK details.
Step 8: Print the Appointment Receipt and carry it with you on the day of your appointment.
If you prefer paying the passport application fee at a bank, you can use the SBI Challan option:
Step 1: Generate an ARN after completing the online form or uploading an e-Form on the Passport Seva Portal.
Step 2: Select your appointment quota (Normal/Tatkaal) and choose your preferred PSK/POPSK location.
Step 3: On the payment page, select 'Pay via Challan' and click on 'Print Challan' to download the SBI Challan with your ARN details.
Step 4: Visit any State Bank of India branch and pay the application fee.
Step 5: SBI will update the payment status on the Passport Seva Portal within 2 working days.
Step 6: Log in again and click on 'Track Payment Status' to verify that your challan payment has been received.
Step 7: Once the status shows successful, you will be redirected to the Passport Seva Online Portal to continue the appointment booking.
Step 8: Choose an available slot and click on 'Book Appointment'.
Step 9: An Appointment Confirmation screen will appear with your PSK details.
Step 10: Print the Appointment Receipt and bring it on the day of your appointment.
You can check passport appointment availability online by following the steps below:
Step 1: Go on the Passport Seva Online Portal and click on 'Check Appointment Availability'.
Step 2: Select the Passport Office (PSK/POPSK) of your choice from the dropdown menu.
Step 3: Complete the Captcha verification and click on 'Submit'.
Step 4: You will see the available appointment slots for the selected Passport Office.
The appointment slots displayed are not final as slots may open up throughout the day. This can either be due to cancellations or rescheduling by other applicants. It helps to check the Passport Seva Portal regularly and book a preferred slot as soon as one becomes available.
Once you have booked your appointment, you can track its status anytime through the Passport Seva Online Portal:
Step 1: Log in with your ID and click on 'Track Application Status'.
Step 2: Enter your Application Reference Number (ARN) or File Number.
Step 3: Select your Date of Birth from the calendar dropdown.
Step 4: Complete the Captcha verification and click on 'Track Status'.
Once you have tracked the status of your application, you should be able to see the details of your appointment, including the date, time and location of your appointment at the PSK.
Alternatively, you can check your appointment date by calling the PSK's National Call Centre at 1800-258-1800 or by sending an SMS to 9704100100 with the message "STATUS <your file number>".
If you need to cancel or reschedule your passport appointment date online, you need to log in to your Passport Seva Online Portal account.
Step 1: After logging in, click on ‘Schedule Appointment’.
Step 2: Select the ‘View Saved/Submitted Applications’ option.
Step 3: Click on ‘Reschedule Appointment’ or ‘Cancel Appointment’, as per your requirement.
Step 4: If you are
Rescheduling: Select a new available appointment slot and confirm your choice.
Cancelling: Confirm the cancellation when prompted.
Step 5: Once the change is completed, an updated Appointment Confirmation screen will appear with the new details.
Note: Reschedule your appointment at least 3 days before the scheduled date to avoid any cancellation charges.
In order to get a new passport, you need the following documents for a passport appointment:

Identity proof with a photograph
Passport size photographs
Birth Certificate

School/University Certificates
Downloading the passport appointment receipt is quick and hassle-free. You need to:
Step 1: Go to the official website of Passport Seva.
Step 2: Click on the ‘Existing User Login’ button.
Step 3: Enter your user ID and password to log in to your account.
Step 4: After logging in, click on ‘View Saved/Submitted Applications’.
Step 5: Select the application for which you want to download the appointment receipt and click on the ‘Pay and Schedule Appointment’ button.

To make an online appointment for passport renewal, you can follow the steps mentioned below:
Step 1: Go to the Passport Seva website and click on ‘New User? Register Now’ if you don’t have an account. If you are already registered, click on 'Existing User Login'.
Step 2: Log in with your User ID and Password.
Step 3: Select ‘Apply for Re-issue of Passport’ option from the list of services provided.
Step 4: Fill in your online application details, such as your current passport number, the issuing authority, and the expiration date.
Step 5: Choose the type of passport you need (Normal or Tatkaal), and select the booklet type (36 or 60 pages) based on your travel requirements.
Step 6: After submitting the form, select your Passport Seva Kendra (PSK/POPSK) and choose your appointment quota.
Step 7: Choose an available appointment date and time from the slots and click on 'Pay and Book Appointment'.
Step 8: Pay the passport renewal fee online using credit/debit cards, internet banking, or SBI Challan.
