Gujarat: An Overview

Gujarat is a state with colourful traditions and a rich heritage. The state is home to several tourist attractions, which include the Rann of Kutch, Gir National Forest, etc. Apart from that, the state is also known for its colourful festivals, such as Navratri, Janmashtami, Rann Utsav, Shamlaji Melo and Uttarayan.

Navaratri is the most famous festival in Gujarat. It is a ten-day festival which involves playing Dandiya, performing Garba and worshipping Goddess Durga. Janmashtami is a festival dedicated to Lord Krishna. It is known for the famous Dahi Handi ceremony.

Rann Utsav is celebrated in the Rann of Kutch. During this festival, the white desert turns into a fun fair. Tourists can also spend nights in tents to experience the culture of Kutch. Uttarayan is a festival that marks the beginning of the harvest season. It is also called Makar Sankranti or Kite Festival. During this festival, people fly kites from the rooftops of their houses.
