Tripura: An Overview

Tripura is a state with unique culture and heritage, and fittingly it celebrates some unique festivals and fairs. Apart from the serene landscape, such festivals are also tourist attractions. Some of the prominent festivals in this state include Garia Puja, Ashokastami Festival, Pilak Festival, Kharchi Festival and Poush Sankranti Fair.

Garia Puja is a seven-day festival in Tripura. It involves people worshipping Lord Garia and offering flowers and garlands. Apart from that, a Garia Carnival is also held during the festival.
Ashokastami Festival is also called Unakoti Festival, which is held in Unakoti and Kailashahar. It involves people taking a bath in the sacred river.
Pilak festival spans three days and is held in Jolaibari and Pilak archaeological sites. It involves people from nearby areas participating in cultural activities.
Poush Sankranti Fair is held at the beginning of the calendar year in January in Tirthamukh. It involves people taking a dip in the Gomti river and enjoying the fair that lasts for two days.
