Mizoram: An Overview

Mizoram is a state with unique culture, heritage and traditions. It also attracts tourists from around the world, and it is a good opportunity to get a glimpse of the lifestyle of the state’s people. The Mizo tribe celebrates several festivals that are unique to the state. The prominent festivals of Mizoram include Mim Kut, Pawl Kut, Chapchar Kut, Thalfavang Kut and Christmas.

  • Mim Kut is a festival that honours death and celebrates life. It involves people paying their respect to the loved ones who had died during the preceding year. The festival is also about relishing the harvest season.

  • Pawl Kut is celebrated in December after the harvest is complete. It is a thanksgiving festival and involves people celebrating by consuming local drinks and eating meat.

  • Chapchar Kut is one of the oldest festivals in Mizoram, and it spans a week. It involves people singing, dancing and feasting.
